One of my biggest pet peeves is the fact that so many history books are big on the Irish "famine" and tend to misconstrue the facts. Just now I read this (regarding the influx of immigrants to America after 1820), "But many came because of "push" factors: to stay where they were meant to face starvation. This was particularly true of those from Ireland, where a potato blight triggered the flight of tens of thousands." OKAY. if by BLIGHT you mean PURPOSEFUL STARVATION OF IRISH FARMERS BY THE BRITISH then that statement would be correct. Fucking get it right. There was no "famine"...
